Chapter 549
Calliope gave Monty a quick rundown of Horatio's treatment plan. Halfway
through their conversation, Horatio and Valerian came in together. They listened as Calliope explained the details.
"The odds are definitely in our favor," Calliope said, her face serious, "but there's always a chance of minor complications. I can't promise a hundred percent."
She spoke with a calm confidence, the kind that only comes from real experience. Her professionalism was obvious.
Horatio sat quietly in his wheelchair, Valerian on the couch beside him, both hanging onto every word.
"But you can push those odds higher, right?" Valerian pressed, studying her. "You're the Miracle Doctor. You'll give it everything you've got, won't you?"
For the first time, Valerian truly realized just how skilled his sister was. Horatio's legs-no one else had been able to help, no matter how many renowned specialists they'd seen. Some had even suggested tracking down the so-called Miracle Doctor.
He never expected the Miracle Doctor would be his own sister. Now that he knew, it felt both unreal and weirdly fitting, like maybe she'd always been destined for greatness.
"I do everything I can for every patient," Calliope replied softly. "Medicine isn't a game, or a weapon for revenge. The first thing my mentor taught me was compassion."
She looked up, meeting their eyes. "I know we're not exactly close, but if I take a case, I do it right. No half-measures."
Her tone was calm, steady, no drama, just quiet assurance.
The others exchanged glances. After all, everyone called Calliope a miracle worker, and no one else had even a shot at helping Horatio. Shè was their best and only chance And honestly, she seemed worthy of their trust.
"Callie, about what just happened with Lisette..." Monty hesitated, then spoke up. "Don't take it personally. I'll talk to her. I just didn't expect her to make those accusations."
Horatio and Valerian both fell silent, discomfort flickering across their faces. They'd always thought of Lisette as sweet and innocent, never
expected her to try and fever
Calliope, claiming she'd stolen her things just to get Calliope in trouble. She must not have expeéted Callie to see right through her act. At that moment, both men started to see Lisette and Calliope in a new light.
After they finished, Calliope left the study.
Zelda had already turned in for the night. Lisette was sitting in the living room, obviously dying to know what was being discussed behind closed doors.noveldrama
As soon as Calliope emerged, Lisette's gaze snapped to her, searching her face
for any clues. But Calliope's expression gave away nothing.
Soon enough, Monty and the others came out as well. Horatio and Valerian gave Calliope a quick nod before heading off to their rooms. Monty shot Lisette a look, frowning, but said nothing and went upstairs.
When Calliope made her way to her own room, Lisette glared after her. As Calliope reached her bedroom door, Lisette got up and followed, slipping inside before Calliope could close it behind her.
"Calliope," Lisette hissed, shutting the door, "Did you steal Horatio's room on purpose and let him take mine? Is that what this is about?"
What do you think?
