Chapter 1401
Chapter 1401:
Monday morning, the eighth graders were met with an unexpected sight—Lilyana and Calan walking into the classroom together. Even at lunch, they were seen sitting at the same table.
During the break, Lilyana’s friends wasted no time pulling her aside for a talk.
“Lilyana, tell us the truth—what’s going on between you and Calan?”
“Yeah, why are you suddenly coming to school together? And eating together?”
“Be honest with us, Lilyana.”
Blinking at their eagerness, Lilyana frowned in confusion. “We’re just friends, really. Nothing more.”
Her friends exchanged knowing looks, unconvinced. “How do you go from barely knowing each other to being this close over a single weekend?”noveldrama
“There’s definitely something going on between you two.”
With their relentless stares fixed on her, Lilyana let out a small sigh. She briefly explained how her younger brother, Collier, had become friends with Calan and had introduced them.
Hearing her explanation, the girls seemed to lose interest. They exchanged glances, shrugged, and prepared to return to their seats.
“Wait a minute,” Lilyana called out.
They turned back. “What is it? If you don’t need anything, we’ve got homework to finish.”
Having failed to uncover any gossip, they were already eager to distract themselves with homework.
Lilyana tilted her head slightly. “Did you all come over just to ask about this?”
They nodded in unison. “Of course. And now that we know the truth, we’re heading back.” As they walked off, Lilyana sat at her desk, feeling that something was… off.
“Lilyana.”
A clear voice called her name, and she turned just as Calan approached, placing a bottle of yogurt on the corner of her desk.
“Collier mentioned you like this. So I grabbed one for you while picking up some ink.”
Seeing her favorite yogurt in front of her, Lilyana picked it up without a second thought. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Calan offered Lilyana a small smile before turning away and settling back into his seat.
As she watched him go and then glanced down at the yogurt in her hand, Lilyana replayed his words in her mind. There was no doubt about it—Calan was changing.
That was a good thing. A really good thing. She sipped her yogurt, feeling quietly pleased with the progress her new friend was making. Time flew by, and before anyone realized it, the exam results had been posted.
As class leader, Lilyana was the first to receive the report cards.
Her gaze swept over the scores, and she saw her own name sitting at the very top—right alongside Calan’s. Tied for first place. Without hesitation, she strode over to Calan’s desk and smiled. “Congratulations. The results are out—you got first place.”
Calan barely glanced at his score before shifting his gaze to hers. A soft chuckle escaped him as he said, “You’re better than me. If there’s something I don’t know, you always have the answer. I bet you only got this score because the test had its limits, not because you’ve hit yours.”
