Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 988

Since it never came up, Connor never mentioned it either. Even now, after all this time. Except for that one time when Tim unconsciously babbled it. Connor had never actually heard those two words from Tim's lips.

Rationality kicked back in for Connor. His hand, once poised to strike, now hung limply by his side. A wave of guilt washed over him. Tim was just a three-year-old kid. Mischief was second nature to him. A little guidance would do the trick-there was no need to hit him. Connor scolded himself silently.

He pulled Tim into a hug. "I'm sorry, buddy. Daddy shouldn't have hit you. I was just so scared-scared of losing you."

Connor was truly frightened. The fear of losing someone was worse than drowning, more terrifying. He had lost too much already. He couldn't bear to lose a single thing more. But even after being comforted, Tim's tears didn't stop. He kept pointing toward the door, repeating the word "mommy."

Connor sensed something was off. The resort manager came over and said, "A lady just brought the little guy back. He kept clinging to her, calling her 'mommy."

Connor's brow furrowed. For a moment, he felt like he was stepping off a cliff. His heart felt weightless. But logic quickly kicked in again, and he brushed off the thought. Tim had no concept of a mommy; how could he just call someone that out of nowhere?

Still, Connor asked, "Where's the lady who brought him back?"

The manager gestured toward the door, "She just left."

Connor spun on his heel and dashed outside. He didn't even know why. With every step, his heart raced a little faster, pounding like a drum in his chest. It felt ridiculous. Alle because Tim randomly cried out, "mommy." Yet, he was desperate to see this woman. Part of him even hoped it might be Chloe.

Connor knew this was a foolish hope. How could it possibly be Chloe? Tim had never even seen a picture of her. It simply couldn't be Chloe Over the past two years, they'd searched everywhere, met so many people. They'd even encountered folks who looked strikingly similar to Chloe. But they were just that-similar. Each cycle of hope followed by despair felt like a bout of severe illness.

Eventually, after going through so much, in the last six months, he'd found a bit of emotional balance. Even when reports came in about Chloe's possible whereabouts, he approached them raut every time, it ended in

disappointment. Yet this time, an inexplicable hope flared up again. He knew that such hope would eventually lead to a deep void, like a sharp knife. But his heart seemed to have a mind of its own. noveldrama

His pace quickened until he was sprinting. He finally reached the elevator. There stood a woman in a kimono, her back to him, seemingly waiting for the elevator. Just then, the elevator doors opened. The woman stepped inside and turned around. As she did, the elevator doors started to close.

In that fleeting moment before the doors shut, Connor caught a glimpse of her

profile. His eyes widened in shock. It felt like lightning had struck him, freezing him in place. All the blood in his body seemed to turn to ice, immobilizing him like a statue.
