Chapter 399
"That'll cost you extra," Sebastian smirked, "Ten million dollars."
Miranda blinked, momentarily taken aback. "Come again?"
Sebastian continued, "An extra fee. Help me find out who poisoned Susie, and I'll pay you ten million dollars."
Miranda hesitated for a moment, then cleared her throat. "Well... that's not entirely out of the question."
Nobody says no to money, especially when it's not a dangerous task.
"But let me think it over. I'll get back to you in a couple of days." She decided to play it cool, didn't want Sebastian thinking she was just in it for the money.
Sebastian chuckled, "Alright."
"It's getting late, you should get some rest," he said, turning to leave but then paused, "Oh, by the way."
Miranda was also about to call it a night. "What's up?"
Sebastian scratched his head sheepishly, "I just posted a picture on Facebook,
and I think it got misunderstood."
"Huh?" Miranda raised an eyebrow.
Sebastian grinned, "I posted a picture of you."
Miranda blinked. It's just a picture, how could it be misunderstood?
Having been in the public eye before, Miranda was used to photos being shared and didn't think much of it.
"Why'd you post a picture of me?" she asked, genuinely curious.
Sebastian met her gaze, "I happened to snap a good one and couldn't resist sharing it on Facebook."noveldrama
Miranda nodded, accepting the explanation. After all, she knew she was easy on the eyes.
"So, what was the misunderstanding?"
Sebastian shrugged, "Nothing major, just that people think you're living at my place."
Miranda was mildly curious but too tired to dwell on it. After exchanging a few words with Sebastian, she headed to bed.
She slept soundly that night, probably because treating Susie had drained her energy.
In another room, Sebastian also slept unusually well. Despite the distance, he could faintly smell the soothing scent of herbs, calming his mind and driving away his usual worries. For once, his dreams were pleasant, and he woke up feeling more refreshed than he had in a long time.
The next morning, Crystal was headed to the backyard to check on her plants when she saw Carter curled up on the couch.
She frowned, "Why is he still here?"
Jo approached quietly, "Miss Crystal, he refuses to leave. Says he'll wait here for Miss Miranda."
Crystal sighed, "Send Miranda a message. Tell her if he keeps sleeping there, he's bound to catch a cold."
With that, she turned to leave, but Carter suddenly jolted awake, startling Jo.
"Where are you going?" Carter asked, rubbing his eyes.
Crystal replied curtly, "Gardening."
Ignoring him, she strode away, but Carter tried to follow, only to be stopped by Jo.
"The backyard's off-limits. Only the two ladies can go there," Jo said firmly.
Carter protested, "Miranda's my sister, my real, blood-related sister."
Jo remained unmoved, "Doesn't matter."
Carter attempted to squeeze past but was effortlessly lifted back by Jo.
Carter was shocked. How could a butler be so strong? He was a six-foot-tall man, after all.
Seeing Jo's expressionless face,
Carter didn't dare make another
move. He was just bored and wanted to explore Miranda's estate. He'd never seen a garden before and was curious about the serious-faced woman tending to one.
"If you're bored, Mia can show you around the rest of the place," Jo offered. "But
Miss Miranda won't be back soon."
Carter pouted, looking a bit defeated, "I just wanted a look."
Meanwhile, Miranda picked up her phone, only
of unread messages, her brow furrowing as she skimmed through them. .
