Legendary Football Superstar

Chapter 041: Splits

Luke had never done yoga before, but he knew it was weird to hold a pose for too long. Yoga's all about endurance, precision, and breathing, not like jump rope where you just follow commands. It's more about staying still and calming your mind.

So, when he lost his balance after just three seconds, he knew he was doing something wrong.

The first pose was already kicking his butt, and he had four more to learn. Luke was starting to think he wouldn't finish his training for the day. Was his five-month streak about to end?

Luke took a deep breath, then another.

From the way the system had been setting up tasks, it was clear it wasn't trying to make him fail but to push his limits. Each day's tasks were doable, tailored to his improving skills. So, these yoga poses had to be possible too.

He forced himself to chill and watched the video again. This time, he noticed some differences. After watching it a bunch of times, it finally clicked. The secret was in the poses: when done right, the body formed a golden ratio, like in art and photography. Did he need to adjust his center of gravity? Maybe that was why he kept failing.

He started over.

Luke didn't rush. He carefully analyzed each step of the video. Then, following along, he stood with his feet together, stretched his body, and adjusted his center of gravity bit by bit. Finally, he nailed it. His body was like a drawn bow, with his right hand extended, finding core stability.

The feeling was awesome. Every muscle was tense yet relaxed. His restless thoughts settled, and his focus was entirely on himself, becoming almost blank.

He didn't even notice the red light next to the video in his mind had turned green, signaling his pose was correct. He was fully concentrated, adjusting his breath, feeling a subtle sensation in his core. It was hard to tell if it was the airflow around him or the air inside his body, but his mind was clear.

One second, two seconds, three seconds.

"I'm back. Dude, what are you doing?" Jay burst in and saw Luke in a weird pose. He blinked, jaw dropping. Logan whistled, "Whoa, Bambi, is that a move from the Indian 'Kamasutra'? I swear I know this one! Don't tell me, let me think."

Logan's over-the-top reaction and Jay's circling threw Luke off. As a yoga newbie, he needed more practice, which he clearly lacked. His breathing got messed up, and his pose collapsed like a Jenga tower.

Luke stumbled back and finally stopped when he hit the sofa. Looking at the grinning Logan and Jay, Luke said seriously to Logan, "You'll know what pose it is tonight in bed. Bet you'll love being on the bottom."

Jay whistled and shouted, "Luke, touchdown; Logan, fail."

Logan dramatically hugged himself, striking a shy pose. But with his big frame, he looked anything but shy, more like a weirdo. "Please be gentle, it's my first time, and I'm a bit shy."

"Logan, touchdown!" Jay watched, clearly entertained, just missing a bag of chips.

"Don't worry, I'll be very gentle." Luke raised his eyebrows, threw a flirty glance, and extended his finger to lift Logan's chin. Before he could get close, Logan couldn't hold it anymore, turned around with a horrified look, and started fake gagging, raising his hands in surrender, "I give up, I give up."

Jay stepped up and raised Luke's right hand, "Round one thousand and one, Luke wins again!"

When it came to trash talk, Logan had gone head-to-head with Luke countless times, but the result was always the same: Luke came out on top. Even Jay had to admit defeat when it came to verbal sparring with Luke. If he wasn't a football player, Jay was convinced Luke would make a killer journalist.

"So, what the heck are you doing?" Logan asked, curiosity piqued after the joke, "Yoga? Seriously?"

"Yeah, last night's game, my footwork was trash, and my dodging was stiff," Luke recited what he'd read from the system, "So I figured, maybe yoga's the way to go."

"I heard yoga helps with focus too," Jay said, not really interested, as he headed to the living room, "Luke, why don't you keep going? That pose you did looked insane. How'd you pull it off?"

"Honestly, I have no clue," Luke laughed, then joked, "Maybe I should get some old- school videotapes and learn properly."

"Videotapes? Dude, what century are you living in? The '70s?" Logan started griping again.

Luke just shrugged and laughed, admitting Logan had a point, "Actually, I don't mind. I kinda dig it. Don't you know the best music, movies, and art were all before the '90s?" Luke's cheerful response made Logan and Jay exchange a look and pull a "self- destruct" funny face. Ignoring the two clowns, Luke pulled up the video again and repeated the pose. Slowly, his body seemed to get the hang of it. He nailed the pose without much trouble, then calmed his breath and held steady.

As expected, the system's tasks weren't random; each one was tailored to Luke's physical condition and skill level. The five basic yoga poses looked tough but were definitely within his reach.

One pose, two poses... five poses. Luke carefully tried all five. Except for the last one, which was still a bit tricky, he managed the others smoothly. The fifth pose involved a split, and his thighs weren't flexible enough. He couldn't even do a full split; his crotch was still far from the ground. He seriously doubted he could nail this pose by tomorrow.

Just as Luke was about to stand up, a heavy pressure came from his back, forcing him down. A sharp pain shot through his thighs, and before he knew it, his legs had split. Luke seriously thought his thighs were gonna dislocate! "Logan Newman!" Luke gritted his teeth, squeezing out each word.

Logan pressed his full weight on Luke's back, "Hey, buddy, looks like you can do it. Just needed a little push. No need to thank me." Logan laughed proudly.

"Logan, I can't feel my legs. Seriously, no feeling," Luke's exaggerated cry didn't faze Logan. He leaned in, his face inches from Luke's, "Buddy, I saw you struggling with this pose. Now you're good. Stretching out will make it easier next time."

Luke held his breath, didn't say a word, focused, then suddenly raised his hands, grabbed Logan's shoulders, and flipped him over. Logan's back hit the ground hard, making him howl like a banshee, writhing like a worm, rubbing his back muscles, his cries almost musical.

Jay, who initially wanted to join the fun, immediately shut his mouth, turned around quietly, and pretended nothing happened. "Got something to say? I think you do. You definitely do. Better say it," Luke's voice came from behind. Jay had to turn around, forcing a smile.

Looking at Logan groaning on the ground, Jay kept giggling to cover his embarrassment, "I just wanted to ask... Oh right, the Rose Bowl. If the UCLA Bruins make it this year, did the coach mention the starting quarterback? Do you have confidence? How's Kevin Prince's injury? Can he recover? Or does he need more rest?" Luke, still in a split position on the ground, sincerely thought he couldn't stand up. Staying in this position seemed fine. "No news yet. But looking at this situation, I don't think I'll make it to the Rose Bowl either," Luke pointed to his straight legs, showing a helpless expression.
