Chapter 477
Jean had already noticed Jennifer and Nadine before they started arguing.
Nadine was her arch-nemesis. Aside from her family and Brad, no one was as deeply etched into her memory. Even from a distance, Jean could recognize her instantly.
Witnessing the heated exchange between Jennifer and Nadine, followed by Nadine's furious departure, she became curious about Jennifer's identity. So, she had Lynn call her over. Upon questioning, she learned that Jennifer was Nadine's mother.noveldrama
Jean's smile widened at the revelation. "I guess I should call you Madam Stein then. Madam Stein, Nad and I are very close friends. If something's troubling you, feel free to talk to me.
"I couldn't help but notice things seemed a bit heated between you two earlier. What happened?" she enquired, pretending to be concerned for them. Her brows knitted as if she were truly Nadine's worried friend.
Jennifer, who had no idea who Jean really was, was delighted when she learned that such a well-dressed and attractive young woman was Nadine's friend. She eagerly seized the opportunity to vent all her frustrations about Nadine.
"Nad has been led astray by that old hag from the Clarke family. She used to be such a good and obedient child. It breaks my heart to see how she's turned out. Sometimes, I think it would've been better if I'd never had her at all."
Jean listened as Jennifer poured her heart out, but she couldn't help but be disgusted by Jennifer. Why should Nadine have to put up with this middle-aged woman's unreasonable demands? Was it just because she was her daughter?
She was repulsed by Jennifer. Based on what she'd heard, Jean could tell that Jennifer didn't love her daughter at all. Jean thought she could definitely use Jennifer in her plan to get back at Nadine.
Jean took a moment to carefully choose her next words before responding, "Madam Stein, I have to admit that Nadine was in the wrong here. You know how it is-parents are always right! It's all Nad's fault; she doesn't understand what you're going through. I'll have a word with her later."
Jennifer was thrilled to have such a beautiful woman on her side. She spilled everything as a result-things she should and shouldn't have said—especially about her conflicts with Nadine.
Jean's heart leaped with joy. Nadine was truly unfortunate to have a mother like Jennifer. But the enemy of her enemy was her friend. Jean was more than happy to befriend Jennifer.
"Madam Stein, there's no need to be upset, and there's certainly no reason to hold a grudge against Nadine. It's just a matter of money, after all. Here, take this. It's five thousand dollars. Use it to tide you over for now."
Jennifer's eyes lit up when she heard Jean was willing to lend her money, as if she had just been
COh,
saved by a guardian angel. She showered Jean with gratitude." you're too kind! I wish you were my daughter! It would be so much better than having Nad!" she exclaimed while eyeing the wad of cash in Jean's hand, eager to grab it.
But when she noticed the look Jean was giving her, she awkwardly lowered her head and forced a smile. "Well, could you lend it to me first? I'll pay you back with 3% interest. Does that sound fair?"
Jennifer had been worried sick
about money, and when Jean pulled out five thousand dollars that easily, she felt like she'd struck gold. Her eyes were filled with awe as she looked at Jean, and there was a certain tenderness in her gaze.
What do you think?
