Regretting the Wife He Threw Away

Chapter 675

Stewart was gone all day, and by the time he returned, night had already fallen.

The nurse was waiting outside the bedroom door. When she saw Stewart come back, she stood up at once. "Ms. Kensington woke up for a little while this afternoon. Dr. Clarke came by to check on her, but she fell asleep again not long after."

Stewart pressed his fingers to his brow, weary. "Thank you. I'll stay with her now, you go get some rest. If I need anything, I'll call you."

"Of course."

Lately, Stewart had spent every night at Briony's side.

The bedroom was quiet, the silence broken only by the faint hum of the lamp.

Stewart sat down by the bed.

A pool of warm, amber light spilled across Briony's face.

Her eyes were closed, her breathing barely audible.

Stewart reached out and gently brushed her cheek with his fingertips.

Even in sleep, she frowned a little, as if uneasy.

He drew his hand back, unwilling to disturb her.

That night, Briony remained deep in her peaceful slumber.

Stewart stayed beside her, alone in the hush, watching over her until the first pale glow of dawn pushed back the darkness.

Morning came.

He rubbed his forehead, stood, and quietly left the room.

In the director's office, Stewart sat on the couch. Cedric Clarke brewed two cups of black coffee and handed one to Stewart.

"You didn't sleep at all last night, did you?" Cedric asked, settling onto the sofa across from him and taking a sip of his own coffee.

Stewart cradled the mug in his hands. The fatigue of a sleepless night shadowed his features, but his gaze remained alert, every nerve strung tight.

"When will we get the results?" he asked quietly.

"Soonest would be today," Cedric replied, setting his cup down on the coffee table and looking Stewart over. "But I have to admit, I'm curious-what did the donor ask of you?"

"That's not your concern." Stewart's tone was clipped, his expression grave. "What I need from you is a promise that the surgery will be a success.”

Cedric gave a sharp laugh. "Hey,

that's not fair! No matter how much

faith you have in me, even with all

my experience, I can't guarantee a bone marrow transplant will succeed a hundred

time." noveldrama

Stewart bowed his head, rubbing his brow. "I know."

“But trust me, I'll do everything I can. After that, it's up to Briony."

Stewart's voice was low and steady. "For the sake of our child, I believe she'll pull through."

Cedric saw the worry etched deep in Stewart's face and figured he was anxious about the operation. "Don't worry," he said. "As long as the. donor's health checks out, the are good. Plus, with Dr. Ellsworth overseeing everything, I'm confident Briony will get through this."

Stewart simply lowered his eyes and murmured a quiet assent.

At three in the afternoon, the donor's test results came back.

A perfect match.

It was the kind of news that lifted everyone's spirits.

The moment word spread, family and friends hurried to the hospital.

Briony must have sensed something, because she woke around six in the evening.

When she opened her eyes, only the nurse was by her side.

Everyone else was downstairs.

Briony was so fragile now that each visitor had to carefully disinfect before entering her room. To reduce her risk, they all kept their visits to a minimum.

The nurse's eyes sparkled with excitement when she saw Briony awake. "Ms. Kensington, wonderful news! The hospital found a matching bone marrow donor for you!"

Briony froze.

They'd really found a donor?

She could survive this?

"Don't get too excited..." The nurse

dabbed at the tears spilling from Briony's eyes with a tissue, her own voice trembling with emotion. “Your family and friends are all here, waiting downstairs. They didn't want to disturb your rest."
