The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Chapter 28

While Jason didn't say anything, he agreed with some parts of Mason's words.

Mason looked at Lucas and said assuredly, "I think Evelyn's trying to compete with Tiffany. Tiffany showed an interest in drones, so she put on an act. Tiffany became interested in Sebastian, so she started working at Flying Seal Group. Her core purpose is to grab your attention!"

He was more experienced with the way women employed their wiles. Women whose love was unrequited would become pretentious and troublesome.

Lucas didn't reply as his phone started ringing. It was Maria. He got up and headed out to take the call.

"Why are you still up so late?"

Maria harrumphed coldly. "What about you? Are you spending time with Evie?"

Lucas held his forehead. "I'm busy with work."

"Don't make excuses! Don't think I haven't heard of the gossip! You've been in close relations with someone else lately. Do you think this is appropriate?" Maria was utterly furious.

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Who told you that?"

"It's true?" Maria cried out in dismay. "Lucas Grant! Evelyn is such a nice woman. If you let her down, aren't you afraid that you'll get what's coming for you?"

Lucas objected. "Is it that serious?"

Lucas' perfunctory attitude caused Maria to blow her top. "If you don't want me to get even angrier, bring Evie home with you tomorrow! This is an order, not a request!"

Maria furiously ended the call.

Lucas stood there with a hand in his pocket for a short while, before opening up Evelyn's WhatsApp chat box. But he soon exited the chat and directly called her. Evelyn was just starting to fall asleep at 11:00 pm when she was awakened by the call.

She had a regular sleep schedule and rarely stayed up late. Lucas knew about this.

However, Evelyn was a good-natured person. She would never get angry or refuse any of his requests at any moment, even if she felt unhappy once in a while.

She would process it on her own, then carry on currying favor by yielding to him.

He didn't need to spend extra time on her.

Evelyn picked up the call with a frown. "What's the matter?"

Lucas' voice was flat and steady. "Come with me to Grant Manor tomorrow. Do you have the time?"

Evelyn became more wide awake at that. They were going to Grant Manor? Was he planning to come clean about the divorce with Maria?

She replied without any hesitation, "Yes."

He asked, "Do you need me to pick you up?"

"No, I'll drive there myself."

She was then answered by the beeping sound of someone hanging up without a second thought.

Seemingly having concluded that she would give such a reply, Lucas did not want to draw out the conversation a second longer. It was as if he was afraid she would start badgering him.

Evelyn no longer cared about such things.

As long as they made it clear to Maria, there would be less trouble for her.

...

In the evening of the next day, Evelyn finished up all her tasks at hand and drove to Grant Manor.

Lucas had yet to show up when she arrived. When she saw Evelyn, Maria immediately got up to clasp her hands. "Why have you grown so thin? Do you feel unwell?"

Evelyn took hold of Maria's hands and gave a warm smile. "I've been busy with work. It's nothing serious."

Maria was still worried. "I'll arrange an appointment with a reputable doctor for you. You must improve your health!"

Evelyn merely smiled. "You don't need to worry. I'll be sure to take care of myself."

"It's all Lucas' fault! He's not attentive at all and doesn't know how to take good care of you. Just look at how he hasn't come home yet. Who knows what he's busy with?" Maria was exasperated.

Evelyn smiled silently. It wasn't a matter of attentiveness.

Lucas was self-taught when it came to treating someone he loved. He had never

needed someone to teach him how to treat Tiffanny well.

At this moment, he was probably spending time with Tiffany.noveldrama

Lucas' mother, Sharron Lowe, came downstairs as if on cue. She glanced at Evelyn. "You're here."

After some hesitation, Evelyn called, "Sharron."

She had to wait for Lucas to arrive before mentioning the divorce. Therefore, she still had to follow basic etiquette with her in-laws.

Sharron disliked Evelyn and couldn't be bothered to keep up with appearances. She asked seriously, "I heard that you've quit your job at Bluezen?"

Evelyn wasn't planning on hiding it. "Yeah. I've just finished all the necessary procedures."

Sharron frowned at her. She said in displeasure, "Are you planning to make Lucas look after you without doing anything?"
