Chapter 1644
"Not yet, I've just given a verbal agreement. The official contract signing is tomorrow," Dylan said, still feeling unsure about the whole deal. That's why he wanted Mirabella to check it out before he fully committed.
Mirabella thought for a moment and advised, "Honestly, I think you'd be better off not going through with it. It could cause some issues."
She was quite familiar with this type of security software. While it was advanced for its time, it was still too complex for Dylan to handle modifications on his own.
The mention of "issues" made Dylan's heart skip a beat. He knew Mirabella wasn't one to make baseless claims; if she sensed trouble, it was almost a certainty.
After a brief hesitation, he cautiously asked, "Even if we could tweak it, would it still cause problems?"
"Yes," Mirabella replied, keeping her eyes on the computer screen without further explanation.
The ancestral home of the Stevenson family had a similar security setup, although it was less sophisticated. Her hacking skills were sharpened by studying the advanced archives hidden in its secret chambers.
Unable to read Mirabella's thoughts, Dylan simply nodded and said, "Alright, I'll trust your judgment."
Mirabella raised an eyebrow and looked at Dylan, "You trust me that much?"
Dylan shrugged earnestly, "If I can't trust my dad, who can I trust?"
Not wanting to linger on that topic, Mirabella switched gears, "Didn't you mention some technical issues earlier?"
Dylan's face lit up, "Let's head over to the tech department right now."
It wasn't every day that Mirabella offered her expertise, and he wasn't about to waste any time.
Soon, Dylan and Mirabella made their way to the tech department.
There were still some colleagues burning the midnight oil, curious about Mirabella's presence but wise enough to keep their questions to themselves.
Mirabella spent nearly three hours there, and by the time they left the DO Group's main base, it was close to midnight.
Dylan naturally drove her home.
Mirabella leaned back in her seat, rubbing her temples. The night felt unusually quiet.
After a couple of minutes, she pulled out her phone, finding it oddly silent.
Unlockingat, she saw only muted group messages on Messenger, with no

Calls. No wonder it felt so
quiet.

Considering whether to message or call him, Mirabella decided to send a text.
But even after waiting a bit, there was no reply.
Feeling inexplicably uneasy, she waited a few more minutes before deciding to call him directly.
The response was that he was out of the service area.
Narrowing her eyes, Mirabella ended the call and switched her phone over to computer mode.
Dylan glanced at her but didn't interrupt.
It wasn't until a blinking red dot appeared on the projection map in front of Mirabella that he looked over in surprise, "Pier 51? Do you have friends at the weapons bureau?"
Mirabella looked up at him, "You know this place?"
What do you think?
