Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 839

Chapter 839:

Marshall chuckled. “What’s with the tone? Getting impatient already? No good deed goes unnoticed, you know.”

Eric clicked his tongue. “It’s the middle of the night here! Do you have something to say or not? If not, I’m hanging up.”

“Alright, alright!” Marshall laughed. “I’ve got something to ask you—have you been aware that Hadley’s been in touch with Zane Hayes lately?”

“What?” Eric blinked hard, sleep vanishing from his system. “What’s Hadley got to do with Zane Hayes?”

“Seriously? You don’t know?”

“Of course, I don’t!”

Up to this point, Eric hadn’t even known they’d ever crossed paths.

Marshall dropped his teasing manner and spoke earnestly. “From what I heard, she went to him for help with moving assets. Real estate too. Any thoughts on what she’s up to?”

Eric’s grip on his phone tightened as a shadow crossed his face.

He was desperate to understand her intentions, too.

“Where’s all of it going?”

“Blathe.”

Certain tests had to be done on an empty stomach, meaning Hadley had to wait until the next day.

The nurse scheduled her appointment for the following morning. To make things easier, Hadley spent the night at Elissa’s home. Elissa planned to accompany her to the hospital in the morning.

Even though Elissa’s vision was gone and her help was limited, at least her presence made things easier to bear.

In all of Srixby, they were the only ones each other could count on.

Just before bed, Hadley got a text from Zane. “Drop by my office the day after tomorrow. You’ll need to sign some documents.”

“Alright,” Hadley replied.

The check-up was scheduled for tomorrow. If all went well, she could finally take Joy and leave Srixby by the week’s end. Opening her phone, she quickly booked flights for them both.noveldrama

But late in the night, a sharp pain tore through Hadley’s abdomen, wrenching her awake.

She clutched her stomach, cold sweat beading on her forehead.

She tried to push through it, but the pain refused to let up.

As she cried out, something inside told her it wasn’t just a passing cramp.

“Hadley?” Elissa woke, startled by the sound, reaching out anxiously. “Was that you? What’s happening?”

“Yes…” Hadley’s voice was faint. The pain stole her breath. She went rigid and gripped Elissa’s hand. “Elissa! Something’s not right!”

“What is it?” Elissa’s sightless eyes widened, panic evident in her voice. “What’s wrong? Where is it hurting?”

“I’m… bleeding!” Unlike the light spotting earlier, this was heavy—like a faucet turned on full blast.

Elissa trembled, frantic. “What should we do?”
