Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 840

Chapter 840:

The housekeeper was off that night. It was just them. And both were in no shape to manage a crisis.

“I’ll call for help,” Hadley whispered through clenched teeth, picking up her phone and dialing 911. “Hello… I need an ambulance… in Redmarsh…”

Twenty minutes later, medics rushed Hadley into the emergency vehicle, with Elissa beside her.

“What’s wrong with me, doctor?” Hadley asked weakly from the emergency room bed, her complexion ghostly pale.

“Just a moment…” The doctor said, clutching the test report with a somber look. He eyed Hadley, pausing momentarily. “Did you arrive here by yourself?” He nodded toward Elissa. “I’m not referring to your friend. I mean, did your husband or any immediate family come with you?”

A wave of anxiety washed over Hadley. “Is it my baby? Please tell me, doctor.”

The gravity of the situation was clear as the doctor delivered the news. “It’s an ectopic pregnancy.”noveldrama

“What?!”

Shock coursed through Hadley, prompting her to sit up suddenly, her hands clenching the bed frame. “No! That can’t be!”

The doctor exhaled slowly. “I know this is hard to accept. The back pain, abdominal discomfort, and bleeding you’re experiencing are classic indicators of an ectopic pregnancy. And the test we did just confirmed it.”

Each word was a blow to Hadley, crushing her heart.

Her vision blurred, and she swiftly shut her eyes, overwhelmed by despair.

The doctor spoke urgently. “You’re showing severe symptoms of bleeding. We need to operate immediately!”

Her bleeding and abdominal pain were severe, potentially leading to shock or even more dire outcomes.

“Where’s your husband?” the doctor reiterated, concerned. “We need a direct family member to authorize the surgery.”

Family? Hadley’s expression turned empty. What family did she have here?

She shook her head sorrowfully. “No, there’s no one here for me. Just hand me the form; I’ll sign it myself.”

Eric wouldn’t have counted anyway. He wasn’t legally recognized as her family. And more than that, he was miles away.

“You…” The doctor paused, uncertain how to proceed. But as a doctor, he had seen similar situations too many times in his line of work. In his eyes, she was likely just one more poor woman left behind by someone who should’ve stayed. Finally, he agreed gently. “Alright.”

He passed her the consent form without another word.

“A nurse will be here shortly to prep you for surgery,” he informed her, taking back the form before leaving the emergency room.

“Hadley.” Elissa carefully approached the bedside, feeling her way there, and grasped Hadley’s hand firmly.

Hadley’s eyes fluttered closed, and suddenly all her strength crumbled as she broke into sobs, clinging desperately to her friend. The rest wouldn’t come. Her voice cracked and vanished beneath the sound of her sobs.

Elissa held her close, soothingly patting her back as she whispered, “I know, I know…”
